Coaches Kelly Cook and Larry Minter. The best way to snap a great picture is find two good-looking guys in the food line and yell "Coach!"

Once again, our community came together and organized another great event…the Annual BSISD Teacher/Staff Luncheon. This is one of those rare events where every organization in town contributes, and this year we added another!

In years past, the Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Big Sandy have provided the food – fried chicken, potato salad, and baked beans – but this year the Big Sandy ISD School Board joined this group. Thank you!

The Big Sandy Area Lions Club certainly lived up to their motto, “WE SERVE,” arriving early to help set up, receive food and school supplies, serve the meal (with their customary smiles), and clean up. Thank you, Lions!

Big Sandy Area Lions Club ready to serve!

And speaking of food, New Hope Baptist Church, Sit’em Down Cowboy Church, Gospel Lighthouse, and New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, all member churches from the Big Sandy Ministerial Alliance, provided some amazing desserts. There were enough ‘left-overs’ for the group to snack on later! Thank you! Our thanks also go to Wanda Bunn and the generous folks at the Love Big Sandy Project for providing the paper goods. Thank you!

It’s always a huge help with any event when you walk in and find 99% of the set up is completed! Even if only one or two more tables are needed, they magically appear! A BIG WILDCAT THANK YOU to our school’s awesome Custodial and Cafeteria staff! Thanks!

Thanks to our superintendent, Jay Ratcliff, who served as event emcee, and retired teachers, Pat Lavender and co-organizer, Linda Avey, who also worked. We are also thankful to those who donated school supplies, plus Austin Bank and First National Bank Gilmer-Big Sandy Branch for their contributions.

School supplies

It’s customary to have door prizes and this year folks were very generous with gift cards, snack baskets, golf balls, and more. Donations were made by: Red Rooster Icehouse in Hawkins, Jalapeno Tree-Tyler, Maxi-Lube Plus, Get-a-Grip Massage, Uncle Mike’s Italian Café, Cross-Eye Cow Gourmet Hotdogs, Roughneck Café-White Oak, K&D Woodworks, Garland’s Indoor Comfort, Two Rivers Grocery TT&L Enterprises, SFG, ETex-Gilmer, The Journal, Big Sandy Music Hall, Church of God, Lupe Gonzalez Licensed Health & Life Agent, Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Big Sandy, and Michael and Linda Baggett. Our thanks to all these folks. Please take note of these local businesses and next time you are shopping in their establishments, remember to thank them!

We ask God’s blessings on our school and all schools across our nation, praying for safety, teaching, and learning.
