If you have ever visited the Big Sandy Agape House, you know how little space they have. The small house (1296 square feet) on North Tyler Street/Hwy 155 sits on a .2003-acre tract and is crammed with food, clothing, and other items that are used to help folks in our community. Even with the limited space available, Director Sharon Hill and her crew of faithful volunteers work tirelessly to keep the donations organized and accessible to the many who come for assistance. Creating a larger, safer, more user-friendly facility would benefit everyone.
Last year, the tract of land at 105 West Groves Street was donated specifically for the purpose of building a new Agape House. To date, the building fund has received almost $4,000 in donations, but this is still far from the amount needed. In a letter to area churches, Ministerial Alliance President and New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Pastor Jerome Ellard, stated, “We are seeking to raise up to $90,000 to build a larger facility, though we anticipate that through donations of time and materials, the total cost will be less.”
To help with this project, the Big Sandy Ministerial Alliance Agape House will hold a Building Fundraiser Dinner on Saturday, August 26th at First Baptist Church in Big Sandy. Beginning at 5pm, you can enjoy a supper of enchiladas, Mexican rice and refried beans, chips, salsa, and fabulous desserts…all for a donation of $10. Music will be provided by “No Fences” and silent auction items will be available. All proceeds will go toward the building fund.
Many local churches and individuals support this ministry every month through their monetary donations and countless volunteer hours. To these, the officers and board members offer their heartfelt thanks. If you cannot attend this event, please prayerfully consider making a special donation to BIG SANDY AGAPE HOUSE MINISTRIES, P.O. Box 454, Big Sandy, TX 75755, and noting that it is for the BUILDING FUND. If you have questions, you may contact Pastor Ellard at 903-636-4991 or via email at JeromeHelen2002@aol.com. Pastor Ellard concluded by saying, “Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping ‘one of the least of these,’ Jesus’ brothers and sisters in this special way! And may God bless you abundantly!”
An excerpt from the Big Sandy Ministerial Alliance Mission Statement: “The Big Sandy Ministerial Alliance was formed in the summer of 1992. The community had no resources to distribute food and clothing to those in need in and around the community of Big Sandy. In order to alleviate this need, the Big Sandy Agape House Ministries was formed and serves as a mission effort of the Ministerial Alliance.”
