The 73rd Lions International Texas Lions District 2-X2 convention was held in Jefferson, TX April 21-23. Members of the Big Sandy Area Lions Club attending were President Gerri Thompson, VP Rickey Caughron, Secretary Lois Triebenbach, Membership Chairperson Debra Caughron and member Texanna Greene.

The weekend began Friday night with a release of blue balloons in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month followed by a golf cart parade displaying the banners of each club represented. A chicken fajita social sponsored by the Waskom Lions Club was then served.

Saturday was an extremely busy day, starting with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Linden Lions Club and followed by several meetings, including the club presidents meeting with Lions Clubs International Past International President Bill Biggs of Omaha, Nebraska. The day ended with the Governor’s Banquet. Lions Clubs International Past International Director Dana Biggs served as keynote speaker.

The highlight of the banquet for the Big Sandy club was the presentation of several awards to Big Sandy Area members, including Club President Gerri Thompson. Gerri received the Distinguished Leadership Award, third highest honor to be awarded to a Lion. The award was presented by Past International President Bill Biggs.
