Several citizens have announced candidacy for office in the City of Big Sandy. There are also two important measures on the ballot for May’s elections. They are as follows:

The Big Sandy Community Development Corporation (Type B) and the sales and use tax for the promotion and development of new and expanded business enterprises at the rate of one-quarter of one percent is abolished and concurrently, the creation of the City of Big Sandy Municipal Development District with the imposition of a sales and use tax at the rate of one-quarter of one percent for the purpose of financing development projects beneficial to the district is authorized.
The reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Big Sandy at the rate of one-fourth (1/4) of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. The tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of this election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized.
