During the January Board of Directors meeting, new officers and directors were elected for the Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce. Before stepping down as President, Sally Allen conducted the meeting that reviewed the Christmas parade, recent ribbon cutting and grand opening of Blues Bakery, and finalized plans for the upcoming annual Chamber banquet.

Officers and Directors for 2018 are President Dwayne Canup, Vice President George Strub, Secretary Nancy Church, and Treasurer Melody Payne. Directors are Sally Allen, Linda Baggett, Travis Brewer, Carrie Campbell, Sonny Parsons, and Rick Peterson.

Banquet Chair, Nancy Church, reported the event will be held on Thursday, January 25th at the Church of God on West Broadway/Hwy 80. Longhorn Smokehouse will cater along with Blues Bakery providing desserts. As customary, the event will feature both a silent auction and the always-lively cake auction with emcee Joe Don Saxon. This year’s speaker is Texas State Representative Jay Dean. Tickets are available at Austin Bank and are $15 each or tables seating eight may be reserved (deadline January 22nd) for $110.00.

Also during the banquet, individuals will be recognized for their contributions to the community: Man and Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Firefighter of the Year, and Educator of the Year. Miss Big Sandy will also be crowned.
