While we all know that National Night Out is celebrated in nation-wide in August, we Texans opt to hold ours in October…for obvious reasons: IT’S TOO HOT IN AUGUST! And this year, while we had rain, it didn’t dampen the spirit of the occasion. Hosting a party at one location were Council members Dr. Cindy Bauter, Don Cochran, and Michael Baggett. This event, scheduled for the City Park, was moved to the Community Center and had attendance of more than sixty. Council members Ronnie Norman and Chase Saxon hosted a second location at Mr. Norman’s house on Robinson Street and had a beginning attendance of ten citizens, and more coming in later.

Mayor Sonny Parsons addressed the Community Center gathering, explaining the significance of the Night Out and introducing officers from Big Sandy Police Department, Upshur County Sheriff’s Offices, and Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department: Big Sandy Police Chief Tim Scott and Officer Tony Pradia; Upshur County Deputies Michael Collendrina, Chris Lambert, and Robert Blackmon; BSVFD Chief Jeff Jones, Asst. Chief Stephen Winchell, Capt. and Media Liasion Ken Danapas, EMS Capt. Bradlee DeCuir, Lt. Jesse Boulden, Sec/Treasurer Jose Rios, Board VP Randall Lucas, Melvin Allen, and Chaplain Sonny Parsons, plus future firemen Johnny Jones and Isiah Rios.

Upshur County Crime Stoppers organization provided the food for the evening and all was served, along with lots of smiles, by members of the Big Sandy Area Lions Club. Thanks to all who contributed to this event.
