The following information was taken from the Big Sandy ISD Facebook page and is reprinted here with the permission of Superintendent Jay Ratcliff.

SCHOOL SAFETY: In accordance with Governor Abbott’s School Safety Plan issued late last month, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers (DPS) will be on all of our campuses, at random times, throughout the school year. They will come in unannounced and do their paperwork in an office that we have provided for them, eat lunch or breakfast with our staff and students, visit with staff, answer questions from students, or just park in the parking lot. So please don’t be alarmed if you see a State Trooper vehicle on any of our campus(es).  We have been assigned three State Troopers who will be stopping by and be a part of our Wildcat family!

SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY: Superintendent Jay Ratcliff recently met with Sgt. Manfred Gilow, with the Big Sandy Police Department. He wanted to remind all of our Big Sandy citizens, that the State of Texas activated all of our School Zone flashing lights on August 15th.  Big Sandy PD will begin issuing citations for school zone speed infractions on Monday, August 27th.  The flashing lights are working now, to get everyone used to the school zone speed limits, Monday through Friday, each week.

Sgt. Gilow also wanted to remind all of our citizens to follow warning lights (yellow and red) on our school buses, as the State of Texas has increased all fines for not following school bus warning lights.  Please slow down around all of our school buses and stop when prompted.  All of our school buses will be on the roads starting Monday, August 27th.

HEALTH SAFETY: Please remember that Aurora Concepts will be available during Meet the Teacher, offering immunizations for everyone that needs school immunizations, at no cost to you. They will be available on Thursday, August 23rd, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, during Meet the Teacher. For more information, please contact our School Nurse, Mrs. Susan Williams at 903-636-5287 ext. 229 or by email
