FORT WORTH  The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo begins its 122nd year of bringing high-energy entertainment, education and family-friendly activities to North Texas this weekend when it opens the gates at 8 a.m. January 12.
Cowboys and cowgirls representing iconic ranches from across the state, as well as Nebraska and Wyoming, will be among the featured stars throughout Ranching Heritage Weekend.  The Stock Show kicks off in style, beginning with the popular Quarter Horse Versatility Ranch Horse Show followed by the Best of the West Invitational Ranch Rodeo.
The weekend continues with the entertaining all-western Fort Worth Stock Show Parade in downtown Fort Worth January 13, while the engineering feats of area 4-H and FFA agricultural mechanics students will be on display with Tractors On Parade on Burnett Tandy Drive. Other projects focusing on farm machinery, livestock and wildlife equipment, outdoor gear, trailers and farm equipment restoration will be also be judged in the Equestrian Multipurpose building as students compete for more than $13,000 in premiums. Be sure and visit the poultry building to take in the colorful beauty of our feathered friends. When it comes to color, don’t miss the Premier Texas Longhorn sale, followed by Fort Worth Stock Show Heritage Sale, featuring the AQHA Best of the Remuda Sale and the 62nd Annual Select Breeders Quarter Horse Sale.
The Celebrity Goat Milking Contest is always a crowd favorite when local media personalities square off under the udders of sometime uncooperative nanny goats at 6 p.m. in the Cattle Arena followed by the often hilarious Goat Creative Costume Contest. Stroll through the livestock barns to catch glimpses of youth exhibitors preparing their animals for competition before taking in the Best of Mexico Celebración in the Coliseum Sunday, January 14.
