A Gladewater man was arrested in Longview on Tuesday and charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with a shooting at Union Grove that day which left two people dead and another injured, said Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb’s office.

Joseph Lee Adkins, 53, is charged with killing Lisa Anne Moore, 49, and Dylan Moore, 19, both of Gladewater, Webb said. Adkins was in Upshur County Jail at Gilmer on Thursday after 115th District Judge Lauren Parish set bonds totaling $4 million Wednesday–$2 million per charge, said James Grunden, chief deputy of the sheriff’s office’s jail division.

The injured male, whose identity was not released, was taken to a Longview hospital with serious injuries, said sheriff’s Chief Deputy David Hazel. Webb said deputies found the Moores dead at the scene, apparently of gunshot wounds, and the injured male at a home at 1011 Private Road 1999, near the intersection of FM 1844 and U.S. 271.

Longview police took the suspect into custody before noon in the 3000 block of west Loop 281, said police spokeswoman Kristie Brian. Webb said Upshur officials had learned of Adkins’ possible location and requested Longview police to check a site near the intersection of Loop 281 and U.S. 80, where they found him.

All persons involved in the shooting knew each other and “investigators suspect this to be connected to ongoing domestic issues between the actor and the victims,” Webb said in a press release.

Union Grove ISD Supt. Brian Gray said his school was on a “soft lockdown” for a time Tuesday morning as the incident occurred only about a mile away.

This was the second homicide incident in Upshur County in three days.
