Described by others as “clean, cheap, good home-cooked Mexican food,” I whole-heartedly agree!
Well, here the food is all home made, right in their kitchen. Most of the food in Mexican restaurants of larger cities is delivered frozen from some factory in large trucks which means it can be watery or lack flavor. Not so with the food at Guadalupe’s in Gladewater. This place is a family restaurant that has been in business for years, and it shows in the flavor and quality of the food.
One of the things I missed most about living in places other than Texas, is the Tex-Mex food. There is nothing better than a great enchilada. Cheese that is melted all over a corn tortilla rolled around seasoned beef or chicken mixed with a savory sauce – what’s not to love?
I had the chicken enchilada lunch special with sour cream sauce served with rice and beans. The meat was tender and juicy in a nice tangy sour cream sauce that was delicious. The rice was fluffy and the beans were re-fried, but fresh. It was a great meal.
Their enchilada lunch specials, along with all their lunch specials, are a great value. For about the price of a fast food burger meal, you can eat real food at table with friends.
Free chips and salsa come to your table when you sit. the chips are fresh and a very well-balanced blended salsa make for a great meal. Add fresh guacamole for a great treat.
The service was friendly and the servers are always very good to make sure everyone is having a great experience.
The only thing that this place could do better is possibly freshen the decoration a bit and make the atmosphere a little more updated. But when I eat in a place that makes me a home-cooked meal, I’m not going to complain about the decor.
