Hawkins FFA returned from the 2018 Houston Livestock Show where the team made its mark! There were 568 entries this year in the state. Hawkins boasts Overall Reserve Champion of the entire show Showmanship winners – Morgan Thompson, Kayla Robinson, Brook Goddard and Carolyn Searer! This team also placed 3rd in the shop table class out of 62 entries and 4th in the Specialized Trailers Class out of 32 entries – Kalob Hines, Cain Austin, Katie Cole and Justin Seeton. Placing 5th in class in the Gate division out of 52 entries was the Hawkins Gate team – Kaitlynn Dunn and Alli Boyd!

Hawkins had 22 students show this year with 7 shop projects and received 6 blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon. This was a record year and the bar has been set extremely high.
These students worked 7 days a week for the past 48 days straight and gave up their entire spring break working 15 – 17 hour days to get finished.

They have exceeded my expectations and it’s only going to get better from here. I am very proud of the commitment they put forth and the leadership they have shown. When you go to a show of this magnitude and you have Houston officials tracking you down to brag on the kids, it shows that these students are the real deal and mean business.

Hawkins FFA made a mark in Houston and brought home over $8,000.00 in prizes and equipment. Just getting a blue ribbon is a tough challenge but to move past that and get your name called out and a “backdrop” picture is something of which some schools only dream. These students accomplished that 4 times this year!
