In an official statement on their website, Dr. Debi Crawford, president of the Hawkins Area Chamber of Commerce, posted the following statement regarding the “Jesus welcomes you to Hawkins” sign:

“The Hawkins Area Chamber of Commerce supports a resolution to the sign controversy that allows for the community’s supporters to retain the ability to display the sign while not creating a public forum through its placement on public land. While this statement represents the Chamber’s official stance on this issue, it may not represent the personal beliefs of all of its members. The Chamber hopes for a speedy and peaceful resolution to the controversy.”

Hawkins Mayor, Will Rogers, credits the Chamber as one of the community organizations involved with building the sign. Other community organizations credited with involvement include private business owners, members of area churches, Hawkins ISD teachers and students.
