Laure Bury, a Devon based artist commissioned to paint a beehive which will be donated to Eden in Cornwall as part of a Pollination project.

The Wood County Beekeepers’ Association is sponsoring a “Save the Bees” event during the month of June in conjunction with the Winnsboro Farmers’ Market. A major component of the event will be a hive painting contest. A few great artists are needed to transform plain white honey bee hives into works of art.

Painted hives will be on display at the Winnsboro Farmers’ Market on June 3, 10 and 17, and during the week at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts. Visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite hive. On June 17th cash prizes totaling $300 will be awarded to the top three winners.

There are a limited number of hives available for painting and they will be distributed to artists on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in painting a hive for the event please contact Mary Smith at 903-342-3438 or at woodcountybeekeepers@gmail.com to reserve your hive. Hives will be available for pickup April 8th and must be returned by May 27.

Help raise awareness about honey bees by creating beautiful homes for them.
