DIANA–Three men remained at large Monday after robbing the Security State Bank in this unincorporated eastern Upshur County community at gunpoint Friday afternoon, said Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb.

He said the heist was caught on video tape, and “we’re working on getting some still pictures” from that to release as soon as possible.

Webb said the trio got an undisclosed amount of money when they walked into the bank on U.S. 259 about 5 p.m. and pulled a pistol. No shots were fired and nobody was injured, he said.

The bandits fled on foot, said Webb, who described the men as “black males” and said two were wearing dark clothing with long-sleeved shirts while the other was wearing dark pants and a white tee-shirt. The only other description he gave of them were that they were “average build.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the robbery, Webb said.

Joining Webb himself and several of his deputies in responding to the scene Friday were officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Ore City Police Department.

A major rainstorm struck within about an hour after the robbery while officers were still at the scene.

The First National Bank of Gilmer owns the Diana bank, where a branch of the county tax assessor-collector’s office recently opened. However, the branch is only open on certain days and was not open when the robbery occurred.
