The Stratoblasters will rock your socks off as legendary, Jimmy Wallace, and his guitar gang blast vintage R&B and rocking soul. This group of extraordinary Dallas-based musicians, have performed in some of Texas’ best venues including being featured at the Dallas International Guitar Festival and the T-Bone Walker Blues Festival. The group will perform Saturday at 7PM at the Big Sandy Music Hall. Tickets are just $20 and available online, at the business office in Big Sandy, or at the door. The venue is family friendly, so kids under 12 years of age are free when accompanied by an adult.
The band’s namesake goes back to the late great Texas Blues artist Bugs Henderson, who actually coined the moniker by naming his band Bugs Henderson and the Stratoblasters. After guitarists Jimmy Wallace and Mike (Junior Clark) left, he renamed the group Bugs Henderson and The Shuffle Kings, the very name they were internationally known by until Bugs passed away. Bugs, very graciously, consented to allow Jimmy and company to retain the Stratoblasters name as they would be carrying on the tradition of the three guitar entity.
Through the years a small fellowship of Stratoblaster members have evolved fulfilling the needs of the band, as other members must take their temporary leave. Drummer Mike Arnold moved into the position of percussionist for the band. Randy Cates, came on-board to aptly complete the Stratoblaster rhythm section. Mike (Junior) Clark, an original member of the Bugs Henderson band, replaced Jerry Don Branch in 1990. Joe Lee, Shawn Ferris and James Anderson all played with the band and made their very special contributions. Many of the members of this finite fellowship eventually left the band at certain points through the years, only to return – as the band’s needs and their own needs again fell into sync. The natural artistic evolution continued. Today the group plays for sold out shows in popular venues and festivals throughout Texas.
When asked, “How did you get the Stratoblasters to play Big Sandy?” Music Hall Owner, Andrew Kirby replied, “I just called all my friends and asked them to come help support this new venue and they were gracious enough to come play.”
“We moved to this area 4 years ago, and although the area is rich with talent, there aren’t a lot of good venues for musicians to play for people that appreciate good music,” said Kirby. “We hope to provide for that need and we hope the public will come to the performances and show these talented musicians that we appreciate what they do.”
This Thursday, Andrew and Kate Kirby will perform singer/songwriter series original music along with guests Kevin and Gus Kerby on July 21st at 7pm for only $5 per person at the door.
Friday the 22nd, The Dallahachie Boys will perform a combination of Modern Rock, Texas Country, a touch of Folk, and Southern Rock with tickets at only $10 each.
The Big Sandy Music Hall has musical performances booked on select Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year with ticket prices ranging from $5 to $25. For more information and to purchase advance tickets, visit bigsandymusichall.com
