"The English Lady" beaded Jewelry. Hand-made in Texas by Sylvia Duke.

Good morning, Friends! Hope y’all had a good week and enjoyed the rain and cooler temps as much as I did. It’s nice to sit on the back porch with a cup of hot coffee and watch your crazed puppy dig a hole to the center of the earth! Kate suggested we get her to dig in a straight line and install a sprinkler system.

Last week, God called home long-time Big Sandy friend and sweet lady, Verdell Taylor. Our prayers for sons, Jimmy and Phillip, and friend Patti Rozell.

The Big Sandy All-School Reunion was held Saturday morning. Later in the afternoon, the Class of 1967 celebrated its 50th class reunion at Sit’em Down Cowboy Church/Davis Ranch. It’s always fun to catch up with old friends and share memories.

More from “The English Lady”…Beautiful!

“Shameless promotion”alert: We are excited to tell you about a new line of jewelry at Nanny’s Porch. It’s hand-made in Texas by our favorite ‘English Lady’, Sylvia Duke. Necklaces, bracelets, and earrings – these beautiful creations are sterling silver with Czech silver-lined glass beads, Japanese glass beads, and Swarovski glass beads. The pictures don’t do them justice – you must see for yourself. The English Lady Beaded Jewelry is featured at Nanny’s Porch. We’ve also added a fabulous new pant – Magic Pantz! Come by and see what make them MAGIC!!! (shameless promotion over!)

Now for some more activities: On Saturday, August 12th from 10am-2pm, StewBabes Grill (214 W. Broadway) will sponsor a school supply drive for the Love Big Sandy Project. Free snow-cones and bounce house fun for all who bring donations of back packs or school supplies. Another school-related activity sponsored by the Love Big Sandy Project, the second annual Back to School Bash will kick off on Saturday, August 19th. Elementary kids can party at the Big Sandy Elementary Gym (10am-1pm). Big Sandy Jr. High and High School students will have their bash at Davis Ranch Arena (721 Dial Road, 6-9pm).

It was good to see Dwayne Canup, Lynda Childress, and Nancy (Crow) Harris last week. Tamra, Marsha, Boo, Norma, Doug, Carla, Myra Clift, plus new friends from Hawkins, Holly Holland and Patti Dean, dropped by. Gay Ingram, Big Sandy author, popped in for a visit and Friday morning wouldn’t be complete without Jack and Goody!

Think I’ll make this a short column (I consider anything under 500 words is short) and work on a couple more articles. More August activities next week, so don’t forget to grab a copy of The Journal. Y’all be blessed, and as always…see you at Nanny’s Porch!
