Hey, teachers! Come check out our really cool totes.

Good morning, Friends! Hope you all had a good week. Here it is the middle of August, and we still have lots going on. Teachers, parents, and kids are getting ready to go back to school. There’s football practice and band practice, volleyball has started, and probably much more.

This is a reminder from last week: The Love Big Sandy Project’s second annual “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, August 19th. Elementary kids can party at the Big Sandy Elementary Gym (10am-1pm). They will have free balloon art, face painting, games, hotdogs, chips, and drinks. Also, free school supplies, haircuts, dental hygiene items, and the Big Sandy Area Lions Club will be back with their vision screening. Big Sandy Jr. High and High School students will have their bash at Davis Ranch Arena (721 Dial Road -6-9pm). This party includes a dunking tank (dunkees will be the Big Sandy coaching staff!), volleyball (regulation and water), corn hole toss, and door prizes. Hot dogs, chips, and drinks here, too. (dress code applies to Jr. High and HS: shorts and tee shirts (NO WHITE TEE SHIRTS). Participating organizations are: Big Sandy ISD, Big Sandy Area Lions Club, and StewBabes Grill.

The Annual Big Sandy Teacher/Staff Back to School Luncheon will be held on Thursday, August 24th and on Saturday, August 26th, the Big Sandy Agape House will sponsor a building fundraiser supper at First Baptist Church. Music will be provided by No Fences and there will also be a silent auction. Supper starts at 5pm and a donation of $10 is requested. You may purchase supper tickets from Sharon at the Agape House, pastors, or email me and I will get them to you (lbaggett.thejournal@gmail.com).

There’s a couple of activities on Sunday, August 27th. First, Sit’em Down Cowboy Church (721 Dial Road) will hold their Kids’ Horseless Rodeo at Davis Ranch. Starting at 1pm, there’s something for everyone – sack races, dummy roping, stick horse races, calf scramble, and bouncy ball buckout. Food and drinks will be provided. The arena is covered so even if there’s rain, go have some fun. If you need more information, call Matt Manson (918-519-2498) or Gary Tyson (903-309-7559).

Also on Sunday, August 27th (6pm) the BSISD School Prayer Walk will be held. This is a Ministerial Alliance-sponsored event and has been well attended in the past few years. We meet in the Elementary School parking lot and begin with a group prayer. Then we go to each entrance of the school, offering prayers for the students and their parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and school board members. Prayers for peace and safety. Everyone is invited and if it is difficult to walk, please feel free to drive around the school and offer prayers. We believe it is important to ask God’s blessings on our children and all who have contact with them. Please join us! And school starts on Monday, August 28th! PLEASE, PLEASE be mindful of kids and watch those school zones! Gilow will get you!

Betty’s sisters, Kay Ellis and Charlene Mizner, dropped by for a visit and they fell in love with our Magic Pantz! You will, too, if you come check them out! (See how I slipped that “shameless promotion” in there? Pretty slick!) Jack Hetzel and his grandson, Harry Cheshire, were in for Friday morning cookies, coffee, and Bible study. We love Jack’s weekly visits and feel very blessed to have this wonderful Godly man in our lives!

I’ve covered all the activities I know about, but let me know if I’ve missed something. Y’all be blessed, and as always…see you at Nanny’s Porch!
