Victoria is looking especially fetching in her patriotic red and white striped top with navy Magic Pantz!

Good morning, Friends! It was quiet last week here at the Porch. Regular visitors Jack and Pat Hetzel, Lynda and Maci Childress, and Becky Desborough came by, plus some new folks from out of town (one very nice gentleman from New York City!)

Let’s see…what else from last week. We spent some time on preparations for the Annual BSISD Teachers and Staff Luncheon. We are grateful to both the Big Sandy Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce who continue to fund this event. This year, the Big Sandy Retired Teachers group and the Big Sandy Area Lions Club will help us set up, serve food, and welcome back our awesome group of teachers, staff, and administrators. Jackie, Betty, and I appreciate the help of these folks and a big thank you to all who gave generously when Lynda Childress, the “Queen of Door Prize Procurement,” came calling!

Before I continue, let’s pause for a brief “shameless promotion” break. We are preparing for receipt of our fall clothing and to make room, we’ve marked down summer goodies. Come on in and look around – you’ll be amazed! Now back to your regular reading.

Here’s a few reminders about important upcoming events:

Saturday, August 26th, the Big Sandy Agape House will sponsor a building fundraiser supper at First Baptist Church. Music will be provided by No Fences and there will also be a silent auction. Supper starts at 5pm and a donation of $10 is requested. You may purchase supper tickets from Sharon at the Agape House, pastors, or email me and I will get them to you (lbaggett.thejournal@gmail.com).

There’s a couple of activities on Sunday, August 27th. First, Sit’em Down Cowboy Church (721 Dial Road) will hold their Kids’ Horseless Rodeo at Davis Ranch. Starting at 1pm, there’s something for everyone-sack races, dummy roping, stick horse races, calf scramble, and bouncy ball buckout. Food and drinks will be provided. The arena is covered so even if there’s rain, go have some fun. If you need more information, call Matt Manson (918-519-2498) or Gary Tyson (903-309-7559).

Also on Sunday, August 27th (6pm) the BSISD School Prayer Walk will be held. This is a Ministerial Alliance-sponsored event and has been well attended in the past few years. We meet in the Elementary School parking lot and begin with a group prayer. Then we go to each entrance of the school, offering prayers for the students and their parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and school board members. Prayers for peace and safety. Everyone is invited and if it is difficult to walk, please feel free to drive around the school and offer prayers. We believe it is important to ask God’s blessings on our children and all who have contact with them. Please join us! And school starts on Monday, August 28th! PLEASE, PLEASE be mindful of kids and watch those school zones! Gilow will get you!

Did you just experience a little deja vu? Also, we have decided to take a long Labor Day weekend and will be closed on Saturday, September 2nd. Watch for other changes, too. Y’all be blessed, and as always…see you at Nanny’s Porch!
