Art Pots

Good morning, Friends! Let’s see a show of hands…Who is tired of cold, wet weather and ready for a little sunshine and warmer temps? Come on, Spring!

While February is just a few days away from being over, there’s a great concert at the Big Sandy Music Hall featuring Hanah and Hailee’s Scatter Proof Band on February 24th at 7:30pm. We have some really fun events coming up in March, too. On Saturday, March 3rd, the First United Methodist Church in Big Sandy is hosting a community pot-luck supper at 5pm. Some of the best cooks in town will be contributing their specialties…and it’s free! The second part of this double-feature night of fun will be at the Big Sandy Music Hall. The ‘Purple Hulls’ – identical twins Katy Lou and Penny Lea Clark – will perform gospel/blue grass with impeccable harmonies. These East Texas ladies are amazing and will certainly stir your soul. Tickets to the concert are on sale now – $10 in advance and $15 at the door. We have some available at the Porch or purchase online at

March 10th, the young folks at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship will host their Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. Beautifully set tables, great food, and an attentive waitstaff will make this evening special for everyone. (only $6 per person) Please make plans to help support this youth ministry.

Last week, we had lots of visitors and they really liked our pretty goodies! We had a long visit with our great friend, Becky Desborough. Boo and Marsha Buchheit, John Craft, Bobbie Johnson, Kate and Andy Kirby, Maryanna Culver, Sam Jackson, and Amanda Mullins, along with my favorite 2nd grade teacher – Carla Baker – also dropped in. Maxey Swanner and Sister Paye came in to chat about plants.

Spinner stake.

The really cool (and very popular) spinner featured on Facebook a couple of weeks ago prompted a second and third order…and we received the delivery on Valentine’s Day! Manfred Gilow was the first to claim his, followed by Sue Murphy and Liz Elkins. We’re holding the rest for pick up next week, but decided to order more. Message me on Facebook or come by the Porch if you want to reserve one.

We’re expecting our beautiful rain capes this week. They are lightweight and reversible from a solid to a magnificent print, some matching our umbrellas. Also, coming soon are ‘washable paper bags.’ Sounds odd, but you just need to see them! (“Shameful promotion” over!)

Before I close this week’s column, I need to let you know about a change in hours. Until we are able to offer plants, we have decided to close on Saturday. If you need to shop and Saturday is your only day, please text us or contact via Facebook. My number is 903-720-4021 and Jackie’s is 903-571-4902. We would love to meet you at the Porch! Guess that’s all for now. No, one more thing…HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our friend, Tamra Byrd Boykin!  Y’all be blessed, and as always…see you at Nanny’s Porch!
