The Special Investigations Unit of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office arrested four people on drug-related charges in three traffic stops during July, Sheriff Larry Webb said last week.

Details of the arrests, based on a report from sheriff’s Lt. Gary Shirley, were as follows, Webb said:

A 55-year-old man and 47-year-old woman, both of Winnsboro, were arrested July 10 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of dangerous drugs, and the man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from the city of Gilmer charging him with misdemeanor theft.

The couple was stopped at the intersection of U.S. 271 and Jackrabbit Road. The man was driving.

On July 15, Angela Harwood, 30, of Gladewater, was charged with felony possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) after being stopped in the Glenwood Acres subdivision at the intersection of Cedarwood and Parkwood.

The next day, Rocky Adkins, 51, of Gilmer, was charged with felony possession of controlled substance–greater than one gram, but less than four grams of methamphetamine–after being stopped on U.S. 271 in the Gladewater area near the Gregg County line.

All four suspects were taken to the county jail in Gilmer.
